The Great Collectors

There are a few reasons why I have set myself a portrait painting challenge. It’s a good excercise to paint from life. Observational work feeds all areas of my practice.

Typically I paint landscape in Greece and sketch locals in the kafenion,  but I aspire to make some longer studies so these are a warm up for this work. There will be more…

People who buy my work have pieces of me and I’m always trying to ‘ put Humpty Dumpty back together again’ in the sense of corralling evidence of my existence. I miss my work when it’s gone, so good to sit with it in its new install.

Also, and this is important, women are always written out of history , evidence of their work disappears. By including the Collector with my work, it locates it and gives it weight and a link to legacy.
These are works in progress as I have been moving from house to house with my palette , noticing the hours I click up . It’s been wonderful to be in conversation and take on formal challenges I haven’t encountered.
