Lesvos does something to me

The paintings I have made in Greece feel like a turning point. They are less concerned with describing events and more interested in creating a symbolic language through which memory can be held. The figures are neither portraits nor saints but psychological vessels, carrying stones, bones, snakes, seeds and fragments of landscape. These motifs speak of mortality, endurance and transformation, while drawing on the mythology and sacred imagery that surround me here.

I have become increasingly interested in what survives trauma. Rather than illustrating suffering, I want the work to acknowledge it while revealing the possibility of renewal. Through repetition, pattern and symbolic form, I hope the paintings move beyond my own story and into a shared human experience, where personal memory becomes myth and the ordinary becomes sacred.
