Textiles

I enjoy fabrics for their luxurious surface patterns, colour and malleability. I frequently use them as a covering. I see the pieces I make as embellished skins. Taking fragments of fabric and stitching them together to create a containing , protective comforter. They are often beautiful and act as a distraction from the content within.

There is a rich history of feminism and activism through stitch which I have been interested in since Art School. I see stitching as a way to slow process and contain aggression. The process of gathering and assembling is mirrored in other media I work with.
I am interested in the liberty working in fabric allows being able to transport it easily and make discreetly. It’s always been a quietly subversive creative practice both useful and expressive and gives a canvas for direct political or poetic expression of ideas.
